■ Volhart 2. Corn salad Volhart is a short-leafed type with dark green, upright leaves.
■ Grows more slowly than the long-leaved "Great North Holland" and is slightly more susceptible to smouldering in winter.
■ Sow in rows in the garden, also suitable for cultivation in heated glasshouses and indoors.
■ Do not thin out after emergence.
■ Make sure the soil is worked with compost and kept well moist.
■ Resists frost well.
■ A very vitamin-rich winter vegetable.
