■ A fast-growing annual with creeping and climbing stems and shield-shaped leaves.
■ Open trumpet-shaped flowers in numerous reds and yellows.
■ The spicy peppery-tasting leaves and especially the flowers are sometimes mixed through salads.
■ Sow in the open ground along mesh or trellis or possibly as ground cover and, of course, in larger containers as a hanging plant.
■ Do not fertilise or fertilise very little.
■ The freshly harvested seeds are sometimes pickled as capers.
